Energy Sources - Renewable or Sustainable

Energy sources are a major fact of life.

Renewable energy sources - solar power, water power, wind power and atomic power - are becoming if not fashionable, certainly a major point of consideration.

In fact in the next few years investment and development will grow considerably.

Having said that there is still an ongoing debate between renewable sources of energy and sustainable energy.

And quite frankly the underlying reasons for this debate is monetary considerations.

In simple terms sustainable energy refers to extending the life of the currently available sources so they last longer.

Renewable sources are those which can be replenished.

Arguments for and against can go on and on - and you can add many arguments, technical, scientific, social, environmental and so on.

Eventually what you get is an ongoing argument with many “experts” contradicting themselves and you end up spinning your wheels.

Since I am not an “expert” in anything - thankfully as everybody is an expert now days with not very impressive results - I try to keep things simple.

In the first place, sustainable or extending and stretching the available resources has to have an ending some time.

You can argue about when this will happen or how long these sources will last, but the end result is “finito”.

Environmental impact is definitely an argument, the problem though is that there are so many positions for or against that do manipulate the information.

So my simple approach is that there is a negative impact.

The monetary considerations are real.

The investment that has been made in non-renewable sources of energy is enormous as are the economic and power related interests vested in these industries.

(Eventually this will also become a part of the renewable energy sources).

So what is the next step?

From my simple point of view:

  • Continued investment in research and implementation of alternative sources. (At this moment in time I am very much for Mr. Obama’s stated economic plan).
  • Natural and green living.

Some information that can not be manipulated is the fact this Country was discoverd by the use of Wind Power. A rather hidden fact is that the US has now become the larrgest producer of Wind Power in the world. Nice article, Thanks,
